Lower Extremities

Calf

The second pressure point is located on your calf. To find it, put four fingers above your inner ankle bone, the area will be tender and sore when pressed upon. Applying acupressure on this spot helps strengthen weak labor contractions and it is especially important in stimulating the cervix to ripen. This point is called Spleen 6 and it can be used during labor if the cervix is not dilating adequately.

Foot

This pressure point helps the baby descend. It is located between the tendon of Achilles and your ankle bone and it is referred to as bladder 60.

Lower Back

This pressure point to induce labor is called bladder 32 and it is located on your lower back. One finger width above the buttocks crease on either side of the spine. The woman should lean forward for best results in finding this acupressure point. When you put your finger on this point, you are touching the sacral foramen and you will feel a little depression This spot should be massaged for 60 seconds.

Shoulders

This point is called gb21 and it is located on either shoulders. Locate the bone on the back of your neck This point stimulates uterine contractions and helps be baby come down into the birth canal. It also helps relax your shoulders and stimulates milk let down during breastfeeding. This acupressure point is stimulated by applying pressure with the thumb and knuckle.

1. Locate the acupressure point.
2. Rub and apply pressure on the spot for 60 seconds.
3. Apply circular motion if possible for 60 seconds.
4. Take a 60 second break.
5. Continue for 20 -30 minutes.
